Tight end prospect Dylan Chmura, son of former All-Pro Mark Chmura, committed to Michigan State on Sunday. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound recruit stars at Waukesha West (Wisc.), where his father is a coach.
Chmura called Mark Dantonio and told him he would be joining the Spartans.
"Dantonio was really, really excited," Chmura said "So were coach (Brad) Salem, and coach (Dan) Roushar and they welcomed me to the Spartan family."
He had offers from Central Michigan and Western Michigan after missing his junior year due to an ACL injury he suffered during his basketball season.
Chmura had 19 receptions for 250 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore.
He received an offer from Michigan State after performing well at the Spartan 1-Day Elite Player Camp last weekend.
Michigan State brought in two high school tight ends in the 2012 class, Josiah Price and Evan Jones, and added one via the junior college route, Jamare Mills.
Chmura is the second commit for the 2013 class from Wisconsin (R.J. Shelton), and the eighth total member of the class. Solon (Ohio) cornerback Darian Hicks was the seventh commitment when he chose to become a Spartan on Wednesday.
