When Michigan State received the information that Gary Harris was committing to Tom Izzo, it sent a shockwave of excitement through Spartans fans everywhere -- and the coaches.
As Harris prepared for tonight's McDonald's All-American Game (9:30 p.m. on ESPN), his fellow All-Americans have seen way. In a story from MLive.com, other top recruits had plenty to say about the talents of the 6-foot-5 guard.
“He’s an all-around player,” said Perry Ellis, who is headed to Kansas. “He’s real aggressive, and he attacks the basket. I really like his game.”
“He’s a great scorer, very unselfish,” UCLA-bound Kyle Anderson said. “Normally a lot of guys come to McDonald’s and hog the ball pretty much, but hasn’t done that at all. He can shoot really well. I think he fits into Michigan State’s offense really well."
Izzo had his own praise for Harris, saying that he will help Michigan State's athleticism next season.
Harris had plenty to say about Izzo, as well.
"Coach Izzo, he’s a great guy, a great coach," Harris said. "It felt like a family when I was up there on my visit. If I was going somewhere far away from home, that was exactly what I’m looking for. I can’t wait. It’s going to be fun. It’s a new chapter in my life, moving on to college. I’m looking forward to it."
Following practices this week, Scout.com and ESPN both moved Harris up in their player rankings to the No. 11 spot. Also, the voting for Indiana's Mr. Basketball ends tonight, which Harris is one of the frontrunners to win. The other leading candidate is Indiana commit Yogi Ferrell.
