Two recruits elect to walk on at MSU
The numbers keep growing the Michigan State recruiting class of 2012, and this time it comes in the form of two more walk-ons.
Linebacker Matt Eleweke (University of Detroit Jesuit) and wide receiver Matt Macksood (Lansing Catholic Central) decided to walk on at Michigan State instead of other options.
Eleweke had planned to take a walk-on spot at Syracuse, but when MSU came calling, his plans changed. Instead, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker will put on the green and white.
Macksood, who plays the same position as former Spartan walk-on turned NFL player Blair White, picked MSU over the interest of schools like Saginaw Valley State.
Macksood caught 94 passes for 1,585 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior, all of which rank in the top five in MHSAA history for single-season totals. He also holds the state record for yards receiving in a game with 372 yards.
The 5-11, 180-pound receiver had an impressive junior year as well with 72 catches for 1,413 yards and 18 TDs.
Eleweke and Macksood join wide receiver Tres Barksdale (Solon, Ohio) and running back Marcus Horne (Milwaukee, Wisc -- Bradley Tech) as preferred walk-ons. The class has 21 committed players on scholarship.
